Big Bags / FIBC-Bags

Big bags , also known as bulk bags or flexible bulk containers , are versatile containers for storing, transporting, and dispensing dry, flowable materials such as powders, granules, and pellets . They have become an indispensable part of supply chains in various industries, including construction, agriculture, food, and chemicals .
Because big bags are available in various sizes , they can also be used for storing and transporting large quantities of materials, reducing the accumulation of small containers. Additionally, big bags can be stacked and thus stored in the smallest possible space, optimizing the use of storage space and reducing the carbon footprint of transport.

Our big bags are made from durable, high-quality materials and can therefore withstand harsh weather conditions and bumpy transport. Their flexibility, durability, and versatility make Sandax big bags a practical and cost-effective solution for transporting and storing loose bulk materials and similar materials.

Types of FIBC Bags

Type A Standard Big Bags These bags are used for transporting and storing heavy materials such as building materials, bricks, sand, soil, waste , etc. Although these big bags are made of 100% polypropylene, we can also produce them from recycled polypropylene. The content can range from 30% to 100%.

Type B - Big Bags

Type B Big Bags are made from a special polypropylene granulate with a low breakdown voltage not exceeding 6 kV. These bags are suitable for the transport and storage of dry or flammable powders . However, Type B Big Bags are not suitable for the transport of medium to highly flammable products .

Type C - Big Bags

Type C big bags are also known as conductive bags . Once a static charge develops, it is grounded by an additional conductive band inside the bag. This band is connected to the conductive bands that extend across the entire bag .
Type C big bags are a good option for storing flammable materials in environments where flammable gases are present . Therefore, these bags offer greater protection in factories that produce hazardous and/or flammable chemicals , as well as industries based on petroleum and other similar products.

Type D - Big Bags

Type D FIBCs are an excellent way to vent cargo into the air . There's no need to ground the cargo to the ground. The fabric of Type D bags is made of special granules that absorb the cargo. With our Type D FIBC bags, your company can safely store and transport dry, free-flowing products in environments where ethylene, toluene, methane, and dust from resins and fertilizers are present.

Single Loop and Double Loop

All of the aforementioned FIBC bags are available with single or double loops. These can be seen on the left and right sides of the background. The bags are available in a SWL range of 250 - 1500 kg.
The single- or double-loop versions consist of an outer bag with one or two integrated lifting loops. Coated or uncoated fabrics are available depending on your requirements. Depending on the product and application, liners are inserted to provide additional moisture protection.

Baffle bags / dimensionally stable big bags

A standard big bag (Type A, B, C, or D) is inherently flexible and can bulge at the sides when touched, causing the bag to lose its shape. This is also known as bag bulging. Baffles are additional panels of fabric or string sewn into each of the four corners of the bag. This reinforcement helps the bag retain its square shape when filled.
This makes these bags easier to stack or store next to each other. Since the bulk bag's bulge is minimal, it saves space during transport and storage. These bags are used to transport and store chemicals, food, grains, beans, cement, minerals, clay, fertilizers, cleaning agents, seeds, resins, nuts, and many other goods.

UN Bags

Although all standard bags have a high load capacity, they are unsuitable for the transport and storage of certain hazardous materials. Standard big bags do not always meet the necessary safety requirements essential for the safe handling of these products. UN bags are designed with additional security and are specifically engineered to meet the requirements established by the United Nations for the transport and storage of dangerous goods. To be classified as such, the bags must undergo a rigorous testing procedure conducted by a certified testing laboratory. Each batch is assigned a unique identification number, called a UN number, which represents the basic specifications of the bag and the material it contains.

Ventilated bags

Ventilated FIBC bags are special bags with ventilation holes along the woven fabric. This mesh fabric allows for easy airflow into the bag, preventing moisture buildup and ensuring optimal breathability. These bags are used primarily for transporting and storing wood, onions, and potatoes.

Food Grade Bags

Our production partners in India are BRC-certified and can produce "Food Safe" bags manufactured according to RC Standard 22000:2005. Since these bags come into direct contact with food, they must be manufactured in a very clean and hygienic production environment to prevent external contaminants from entering the bags. These big bags are subject to strict monitoring by both the machines and the production staff.

Dust-proof / leak-proof big bags

Whenever a fine powder or fine material is filled into bags, there's a risk that the powder will leak out of the bag through the needle holes during handling. To fill these holes, we use a filler cord that is sewn into the big bag. These bags are called "Double Dust Proof Bags." Should the big bag still leak, an additional fleece strip is used to seal it. These are called "Triple Dust Proof Bags."

FAQ: Big Bags / FIBC

What is a FIBC or Big Bag?

An FIBC (Flexible Intermediate Bulk Container) , also known as a Big Bag , is a flexible, large container made of polypropylene fabric for the storage and transport of bulk materials such as granules, powders, grain, or building materials . FIBCs are used worldwide in industries such as construction, agriculture, the chemical industry, and the food industry.

What types of big bags are there – and what are they used for?

The main FIBC types are:

  • Type A : Standard big bags without protection against electrostatic charging; suitable for non-flammable materials.
  • Type B : Big Bags with low breakdown voltage (max. 6 kV); for dry, flammable powders, but not for flammable gases.
  • Type C : Conductive big bags with earthing strap; for combustible materials in environments with flammable gases or vapors.
  • Type D : Antistatic big bags that discharge charges independently without the need for earthing – particularly safe for handling flammable powders.

What material are big bags made of?

Big bags are primarily made of woven polypropylene (PP) , which guarantees high tear resistance, flexibility, and weather resistance . For special requirements, there are versions with an inliner (internal film) to provide additional protection for the contents, e.g., for food or powder.

Are big bags food safe?

Yes, food-safe big bags are manufactured from certified PP under controlled production conditions . They meet international standards such as HACCP, ISO 22000, and LFGB and are delivered with special labeling and documentation.

What are big bags used for in agriculture, industry and construction?

Big bags are suitable for the storage and transport of grain, fertilizer, pellets, building materials such as sand or gravel, waste, chemicals and many other bulk materials.

Are there big bags for hazardous substances or specific industries?

Yes, there are special designs and certifications – such as UN-certified big bags for hazardous goods, asbestos or mineral wool bags with warning labels, antistatic type D bags for chemicals and industry , and food-safe versions for food and animal feed .

What advantages do big bags/FIBCs offer over other containers?

Big bags are durable, foldable to save space, easy to fill and empty, have a high load-bearing capacity (up to 2000 kg) and can be used individually thanks to various types and modern materials.
