Strapping online shop: Order strapping & accessories

Strapping technology is always used when you have heavier goods to ship. Above all , strapping is not just about sealing parcels, but also reinforcing and bundling them. For example, if you are shipping a pallet , you need to secure it with the help of suitable strapping and secure it.

The choice of strapping naturally always depends on the goods on the one hand and the transport situation and the weight of the load on the other. What forces will act on the goods and therefore also on the strapping? Will there be particular pressure? Will the goods be exposed to the weather?

Sandax offers a wide range of strapping options

At Sandax, you have a wide choice of strapping. You can choose between textile strapping on the one hand and PET strapping or PP strapping on the other. In addition to the strapping itself, there are also various seals, with which you can secure the strapping.

We also offer strapping tools, because strapping is often not done manually. It has to meet certain industrial standards and this can only be achieved if you use a suitable machine. You can also obtain unwinding trolleys from us , with the help of which you can conveniently transport the various large quantities of strapping, but also safely carry it with you. Because when you have the strapping on the lorry, you want it to arrive on the roll. This is only possible with the right securing device.

What is strapping?

Strapping refers to the wrapping and securing of goods or packages with a special strapping band in order to stabilise them for transport or storage. The aim of strapping is to hold pallets, boxes or other goods firmly together and thus prevent the load from slipping, being damaged or falling apart

Depending on the requirements, various materials such as PET, PP, PES or steel strapping are used. Strapping ensures maximum safety and efficiency in logistics and is an indispensable part of modern load securing

The advantages of strapping at a glance
  • Secure fixation
  • Protection against transport damage
  • Easy handling
  • Versatility
  • Cost efficiency
  • Variety of materials
  • Space-saving
  • Preservation of product quality

What aspects should you pay attention to when selecting your strapping ?

You must always selectstrapping based on certain aspects:

  • the dimensions: In order to order the correct dimensions of your strapping, you need to know the exact dimensions of your packaged goods. If you oversize the strapping, it cannot build up tension and the desired load securing cannot be guaranteed.
  • tear resistance: During load securing and transport, you must be able to ensure that the strapping does not tear. Otherwise the load cannot be secured. If you have measured the strap correctly and chosen high-quality strapping, such as that available from Sandax, you already have a good head start in terms of load securing.
  • elasticity: This point is a particular challenge. On the one hand, the load must actually be secured. On the other hand, the strap must also be able to stretch a little when it comes under load. Words such as stretching and re-stretching are often used here. Is the strapping capable of expanding for a short time and then returning to its original shape? PET strapping and PP strapping in particular have excellent properties. This is one of the reasons why steel is hardly used nowadays . Here, the expansion and re-stretch properties are almost zero.
  • locking strength: Every chain is only as strong as its weakest link. In the case of strapping, this weakest link is the fastener. This is where you can see how securely the load is actually secured. PP straps are usually closed with a friction weld seal and have a breaking load of around 60%. PET straps with a friction weld closure even have a breaking load of 80% or more.
  • slippage: This factor describes how well it is possible to slide the strapping over your packaged goods without damaging them. PP and PET straps again have particularly good properties here.

What do the weather and transport at have to do with load securing?

Both transport and on-site storage can, depending on where they take place, have a considerable impact on your goods. Think, for example, of particular heat or cold. But also think about moisture because it is raining. Depending on the packaged goods, your strapping may even have to withstand such influences for longer.

Both static and dynamic loads can cause the volume or shape of the packaged goods to change. Static stresses include heat, cold, dryness, moisture or UV radiation, which can attack the material .

Dynamic stresses include the pure shaking that occurs naturally during transport. This can cause natural gaps in a pallet or package to close. The packaged goods then have a smaller volume or a different shape. The strapping must of course be able to withstand these stresses.

Tip: Take external influences into account

Make sure that you use strapping that has a sufficiently high breaking load. When making your selection, also consider the weather to which the goods are exposed

A comparison of the individual straps

At Sandax, you can obtain both plastic strapping, i.e. PET or PP strapping, and the textile variant. Each of these solutions has its own advantages and disadvantages.

1. textile strapping: Textile straps are made from polyester fibres. These include hot melt strapping, composite strapping and PES strapping. You cannot process this strapping fully automatically, as you always have to apply the seal manually.

Hot melt strapping is also known as thread structure strapping. It consists of glued polyester threads. It is slightly sticky and can be pulled apart in the direction of the thread. Composite strapping is coated with polypropylene, which is why it is not sticky. However, it cannot be pulled apart as easily as hot melt strapping.

Textile strapping offers you the advantage that it can be retensioned . This is particularly advantageous if your goods lose volume during storage. Think of bundles of wood or other timber, for example. Here it is useful to be able to manually retension as soon as your load has lost volume.

2. Plastic strapping: With PP (polypropylene) and PET (polyethylene) strapping, you have the advantage that they can be processed fully automatically. The sealing can also bedone by machine. PP strapping offers you a slightly higher elasticity, so that you can strap parcels and boxes very well with it.

PET strapping is particularly tear-resistant and durable, making it the perfect strapping solution for heavy loads on pallets. Stretch strapping plays a special role among plastic strapping. You can use it for internal securing. You do not need any machines or equipment for this. Simply pull it over the top layer of the packaged goods and you create an immediate securing effect.
